The goal of intensive listening is to focus on specific details. Focus on details is motivated by learners having to answer a question on a listening exercise or test. When we are asked to listen to the description of how to reach a specific location, we engage in intensive listening as we try to listen and visualize the details carefully so that we can reach the location.
