About Exam

RRB ALP Exam is conducted by Railway Recruitment Board or RRB to recruit for Assistant Loco Pilots & Technicians. This is a common exam that the Indian Railways Conducts to recruit Assistant Loco Pilots & Technicians in various units of the Indian Railways Regions.

First stage of CBT

  • Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories : UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%.
  • Comprises of multiple-choice objective type questions: bilingual (Hindi/English)
  • Negative Marking will be applicable. For every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted. Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT

Computer Based Aptitude Test (for Candidates who have opted for ALP)

  • Candidates require a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible.
  • There will be no negative marking in Computer Based AT.
  • The ALP merit list will be made only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based AT

Based on the performance of candidates in Part A of the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT

Note: Candidates attempting to submit application more than once will be disqualified or debarred from the examination.

Eligibility

A candidate is needed to be: A citizen of India, A subject of Nepal, A subject of Bhutan, A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently in India or a person of Indian origin who migrated to India from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam and have the intention of settling permanently in India.

There are 2 criteria on which your eligibility is judged for RRB ALP Recruitment exam - Education and Age.

You need to qualify the following eligibility standards to apply for this RRB exam. 

Latest Update: RRB has increased the upper age limit for ALP & Technicians. The revised Upper Age limit is mentioned below: 

RRB ALP Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 30 Years

RRB ALP Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PWD: 10 years

RRB ALP Educational Qualifications

Assistant Loco Pilot:

  • You should have Matriculation / SSLC Plus ITI/ Course Completed Act Apprentices or Diploma/ Degree in Engineering.
  • Candidates need to hold Degree, Diploma and HSC (10+2) having eligibility for the posts of ALP and their engineering discipline(Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering , Mechanical Engineering ,Automobile Engineering with the combination of various streams in the respective Engineering Traits): post of Assistant Loco Pilot

Technicians:

  • Matriculation/ SSLC Plus ITI / Course Completed Act Apprentices or 10 + 2 with Physics and Maths or Diploma in Engineering (As Applicable).
  • Those, candidates who have passed out with Physics and Maths in 12th Standard are eligible for Technician Grade III Signal and Technician Grade III Telecommunication posts namely Post 70 and Post 71 respectively.
