Exam Pattern

WBJEE exam pattern is set in a way which will evaluate the analytical ability and competency of the test takers. WBJEE question paper comprises 155 questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Biology subjects in MCQ format. Candidates willing to take the joint entrance test must familiarize themselves with the exam pattern and also have a thorough understanding of WBJEE syllabus. WBJEE exam pattern will give candidates an overview of the WBJEE question paper pattern, marking scheme and other related details about the exam

WBJEE will be held offline over a window of 2 days. WBJEE question paper will comprise three sections namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The question paper will carry a total of 155 questions against 200 marks. While the paper for Physics and Chemistry will be conducted on the first day, paper for Mathematics/ Biology will be held on day 2 of WBJEE exam.

Important Points on WBJEE Exam Pattern

  • WBJEE exam pattern has been set by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board 
  • Questions in WBJEE are completely based on the syllabus mentioned for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.  
  • Candidates aspiring for engineering courses through WBJEE will have to appear for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics papers
  • Pharmacy aspirants will have to appear for Physics, Chemistry and Biology papers
  • WBJEE paper will be held in English, Hindi and Bengali languages
  • Aspirants interested in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture Courses need to appear in both Paper-I and Paper-II
  • For admission to Pharmacy Course of the Jadavpur University, appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II is compulsory
  • For admission to any Pharmacy Course other than that of the Jadavpur University, appearing in mathematics is not compulsory. Score in ‘Physics + Chemistry’ (paper-II)only shall be considered
  • Students appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II are also eligible for admission to Pharmacy course 

WBJEE Marking Scheme 

WBJEE Marking scheme specifies the distribution of marks over the total number of questions in the WBJEE question paper. There are three categories of questions in WBJEE exam for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, marking scheme for which has been described below:

  • In Category I: Only one answer option is correct 
  • In Category-II: Only one answer option is correct
  • In Category-III: One or more answer options are correct

Category 1

  • Only one option is correct, correct response yield one mark.
  • Incorrect response will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks
  • For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.

Category 2

  • Only one option is correct, correct response yield two marks.
  • Incorrect response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks
  • For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks

Category 3

  • One or more options may be correct. Only correct responses will yield 2(two) marks
  • Any combination of correct and incorrect response will be treated as incorrect and will yield 0 (zero) mark.
  • For partially correct responses, marks awarded will be = 2 x (no. of correct options marked ? total no. of correct options)

Eligibility

WBJEE 2019 Eligibility

WBJEEB has prescribed certain eligibility criteria for WBJEE aspirants. Candidates are required to comply with WBJEE eligibility criteria in order to successfully apply for the Joint Entrance Exam. Candidates failing to comply with the eligibility norms will not be allowed to appear for the exam. WBJEE eligibility criteria might vary for different courses and at the institute level.

Age Requirement:

  • Engineering aspirants for all other branches except marine engineering have to be at least 17 years of age as on December 31, 2018. There is no upper age limit for WBJEE 2019. A candidate born on or after January 1, 2000, is not eligible to appear in the WBJEE 2019
  • For Marine Engineering course, candidates have to at least be 17 years of age or above as on December 31, 2018 and must not be above 25 years of age as on December 31, 2018

Education qualification:

For appearing in both Paper 1 and 2:
  • Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode
  • Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above three subjects taken together
  • Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks
  • The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned
For appearing in both Paper 2:
  • Candidate must have passed ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Chemistry along with any one of Mathematics / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode
  • Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above three subjects taken together
  • Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks

Note:
A candidate appearing in the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ Standard Examination in 2019 may appear in the WBJEE-2019 but shall not be made eligible for allotment of the seat for admission if he/she does not pass the Qualifying Examination with the required minimum standard of eligibility criteria as stated above

Domicile:

  • WBJEE aspirant should be a citizen of India and should also possess a valid domicile certificate which will be applicable only for admission in Government Institutes in the state accepting WBJEE scores
  • There is no particular residential/domicile requirement to appear for WBJEE
  • The state domicile requirement is only applicable for candidates seeking fee waiver under Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW)
  • Candidate will be treated as the domicile of West Bengal only if: A candidate is residing in West Bengal since last 10 years by December 31, 2019 , A candidate whose parent(s) is/are resident(s) and or are having a permanent address within the State of West Bengal.
