About Exam

An Act of Parliament in 1956 established the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as an autonomous institution of national importance and defined its objectives and functions. By virtue of this Act, the Institute awards its own medical degrees and other academic distinctions. The degrees awarded by the Institute under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act are recognized medical qualifications for the purpose of the Indian Medical Council Act and notwithstanding anything contained therein, are deemed to be included in the first schedule of that Act, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India.

AIIMS New Delhi, the fore-runner parent excellence institution, was established in 1956.

The duration of the paper will be 3½ hours. The entire paper will be divided into five sections viz.

  • Section 1 – Physics
  • Section 2 – Chemistry
  • Section 3 – Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  • Section 4 – General Knowledge
  • Section 5 – Aptitude & Logical Thinking

The question paper is set both in English and Hindi. Thus, candidates must state their preferred language while filling in the application form. The online mode paper comprises 200 multiple choice and reason-assertion questions

If a candidate has passed the qualifying examination from a foreign country then a document stating that the qualification is equivalent to Class 12 must be shown. The test-taker must also ensure that a minimum of 60% marks has to be scored in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics if belonging to unreserved or OBC category. For a candidate belonging to PwD/SC/ST category, the minimum marks required should be at least 50% to fulfill AIIMS MBBS eligibility criteria .
  • Nationality:- Indian nationals, foreign nationals, OCIs, and NRIs are eligible to seek admission to MBBS course. Except for foreign nationals, taking AIIMS MBBS entrance exam is mandatory to obtain a seat at any of the nine Institutions.

Preparation Tips

  • Build the basics: The basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology needs to be on the tips of the tongue of the AIIMS aspirants. The difficult concepts require more time to be understood. Therefore, such concepts should be worked upon well before the exam
  • Covering your NCERT syllabus of Classes 10 and 12 is essential along with this candidates must also refer to books which gives an upper edge on solving multiple choice questions.
  • Efficient time management: It is critically important to utilize time during the exam, and while preparing for the exams, as well. Though all the sections incorporate the equal number of questions, certain sections are apparently less complicated. Utilize the time saved in attempting your strong sections into attempting the weaker ones.
  • Take Mock Tests and Previous Papers: Taking free AIIMS MBBS Mock/Previous Tests helps you to improve your time management skills and also helps you to identify your preparation level.
