Electric furnace is a heating chamber with electricity as the heat source for achieving very high temperatures to melt. Modern electric furnaces generally are either arc furnaces or induction furnaces. Industrial electric arc furnace temperatures can be upto 1800°C while laboratory units can exceed 3000°C. Muffle furnace is a furnace used for heat treating process when a controlled atmosphere is needed. Temperature exists between 800 - 1700°C. A blast furnace is a type of metallurgical furnace used for smelting to produce industrial metals generally iron, lead, copper etc. Temperature range upto 2000°C can be achieved. Reverberatory furnace is a furnace in which the material under treatment is heated indirectly by means of a flame deflected downwards from the roof. Maximum temperature range in this type of furnace is 900°C.
