Only statement (2) is correct. The Prarthana Samaj, a leading society for socio-religious reform was established on 31st March, 1867 in Bombay by Atmaram Panduranga, however, the movement gained momentum after scholar and reformer Mahadev Govind Ranade joined it. All of its members were Hindus and they wanted to reform the religion from within by stopping the prevalent social evils like child marriage, widow suppression, dowry, sati, untouchability, etc. Paramahansa Mandali was a secret socio-religious group. It was established in 1849 in Bombay by Durgaram Mehantaji and Dadoba Pandurang with their friends. This is closely related to Manav Dharma Sabha which was found in 1844 in Surat.
