The term megathermal is sometimes used as a synonym for 'tropical.' In order for a particular place to qualify as having a megathermal climate, every single month out of the year must have an average temperature of 18°C or above which is very prominently found in the equatorial regions. Most of the rains in the equatorial climate is intercepted by forest canopy and thus reaches ground surface slowly in the form of aerial streamlets through leaves, branches and stems of trees and thus there is maximum infiltration of rainwater.
