India is third largest producer of salt after the USA and China. Major sources of salts are sea-brine, lake brine, sub-soil brine and rock-salt brine, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan are the largest producer States of salt. Salt mining is carried at Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. In Rajasthan salts are produced mostly from the Sambhar lake, which comes into category of lake brine and it is an example of surface water.
