The Pre Conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique Act provide for constituting a central supervisory board having union minister of health and family welfare as it ex-officio chairman.
The board shall also have the following members:-
the secretary to the department of family welfare who will also be the vice-chairman.
the Director-General of Health Services of the Central Government.
ten members to be appointed by the Central Government, two each from amongst- eminent medical geneticists; eminent paediatricians; eminent
social scientists; and representatives of women welfare organisations.
three women Members of Parliament.
four members to be appointed by the Central Government by rotation to represent the States and the Union territories.
The Board shall be performing the following functions or any other function(s) which is assigned to it under this act:-
to advise the Central Government on policy matters relating to the use of pre-natal diagnostic techniques, sex selection techniques and against their misuse;
to review and monitor implementation of the Act and rules made thereunder and recommend to the Central Government changes in the said Act and rules;
to create public awareness against the practice of pre-conception sex selection and pre-natal determination of sex of foetus leading to female foeticide;
to lay down code of conduct to be observed by persons working at Genetic Counselling Centres, Genetic Laboratories and Genetic Clinics;
