(c) Let number of shepherds = x
and number of sheep = y
Given, number of heads = 60
According to the question,
x + y = 60 .........(i)
Number of legs= 168
⇒ 2x + 4y = 168 ..........(ii)
As we know that shepherd has 2 legs and sheep has4 legs.
On multiplying Eq. (i) by 2, we get
2x + 2y = 120 ........(iii)
On subtracting Eq. (i) from Eq. (ii), we get
2x + 4y = 168
2x + 2y = 120

2y = 48
∴ y = 24
Therefore, number of sheep = 24.
