Question : 40 of 71
Marks: +1, -0
Ends of major axis (±3, 0), ends of minor axis (0, ±2)
Solution:
Since, ends of major axis (±3, 0) lie on x-axis.
∴ The equation of ellipse in standard form is x2a2+y2b2\frac{x^2}{a^2}+\frac{y^2}{b^2} = 1
Now, ends of major axis = (±3, 0) ⇒ a = 3.
Also, ends of minor axis = (0, ±2) ⇒ b = 2
Hence, required equation of ellipse is x29+y24\frac{x^2}{9}+\frac{y^2}{4} = 1.
