Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

The following table - I shows the percentage (%) distribution of patients of various diseases in the world and table - II shows the percentage (%) distribution of all the patients and Kidney patients in various continents, namely, Europe, Australia, South America, Africa, North America and Asia in the year 2023. Total population of the world in the year 2023 is 800 crore and 10% of them are patients. Based on the data in the tables, answer the questions that follow.

If the number of hepatitis patients in the world increases by 6% and that of heart disease increases by 22%, then what will be the new ratio of number of hepatitis patients to the number of heart disease patients in the world?

Concept:

First find the initial number of hepatitis and heart disease patients from the given percentages of total patients. Then apply the given percentage increase to each to obtain the new numbers and simplify the ratio.

Explanation:

Total world population is 800 crore. Total patients are 10% of that, i.e., 80 crore.

Initial hepatitis patients = 6% of 80 crore = 4.8 crore = 4,80,00,000.

After a 6% increase, new hepatitis patients = 106% of initial =

\frac{106}{100} \times 4,80,00,000 = 5,08,80,000

Initial heart disease patients = 22% of 80 crore = 17.6 crore = 17,60,00,000.

After a 22% increase, new heart disease patients = 122% of initial =

\frac{122}{100} \times 17,60,00,000 = 21,47,20,000

The required ratio = 5,08,80,000 : 21,47,20,000.

Divide both numbers by 10,000 => 5088 : 21472.

Divide by 16 => 318 : 1342.

Divide by 2 => 159 : 671.
