Question Numbers: 72-76
Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
The burgeoning digital era has brought an unprecedented ease of access to information. Vast libraries of knowledge are now just a click away. Yet, this ease also has a significant pitfall: misinformation. Misinformation, the propagation of unverified or false information, has grown at an alarming rate with the advent of social media. Social platforms often serve as echo chambers, amplifying and spreading unverified information far and wide.
Consider a classic example: Flat Earth Theory. Despite being debunked centuries ago, the theory persists on social platforms due to misinformation and disinformation campaigns. Here, the differentiation between misinformation and disinformation becomes critical. While both involve the spread of false information, disinformation is shared with the intent to mislead, whereas misinformation may be shared out of ignorance.
Regardless of the intention, the consequence is the same: a misinformed public, swayed by distorted facts. It becomes incumbent on individuals to develop a discerning attitude, to differentiate fact from fiction. Digital literacy, including the ability to verify information, is a crucial skill in the current era. Without it, we risk falling into the trap of misinformation.
