The braided river in alluvial flood plains flows in two or more anastomosing channels around alluvial islands while Lane (1957) reported that ‘a braided steam is characterised by having a number of alluvial channels with bars or islands between meeting and dividing again, and presenting from the air the intertwining effect of a braid.
