Mulching is the process of covering the topsoil with plant material such as leaves, grass, twigs, crop residues, straw etc. It helps in protecting the soil from wind and water erosion, increase infiltration, reduce evaporation, feeding and protecting soil organisms, providing nutrients to the crops.
