In steel structures, shear is rarely a deciding consideration in the design of beams. It is usually bending moment and deflection. So, even in ordinary sized beams, shear is not the governing criteria. Checking of shear stress is just a formality unless a heavy point load is delivered close to the support. In deep beams the shear capacity is so huge that even this formality is not really necessary. Shear stress will be petty. So only BM and deflection are the design considerations.
