Salsette Island is situated in the state of Maharashtra. The metropolis of Mumbai and the cities of Thane and Mira-Bhayander lie on it. It is one of the most densely populated region of the world. It is bounded on the North by Vasai Creek, on the North-East by the Ulhas River, on the East by Thane Creek and Mumbai Harbour, and on the South and West by the Arabian Sea.
