Andal was not a Nayanar saint. Andal was a 10th century Tamil poet who is revered as a saint in the southern parts of India. Andal was the only woman among the twelve Alvars. The Nayanars were a group of 63 saints devoted to Lord Shiva who lived during the 6th to 8th centuries CE.
