The Third Buddhist Council was convened in about 247mathrmBCE at Ashokarama in Pataliputra, under the patronage of emperor Ashoka and under the presidency of Moggaliputta Tissa. The Agenda of the Third Buddhist Council was to analyse the different schools of Buddhism and to purify them.
