The Quit India Movement was a civil disobedience movement launched in India by Gandhi on 9 August 1942. It demanded “an orderly British withdrawal” from India. This was preceded by his call to ‘Do or Die,’ issued on 8 August 1942 at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai.
