(1) Ruminants are those grass eating mammals that ruminate, i.e. chew 'cud' for many hours in a day. They possess a unique digestive system with a four-chambered stomach. The food that they ingest is directly taken to the rumen and reticulum (chambers of stomach) where it is converted to cud. The cud is then sent back to the mouth of ruminants for thorough chewing. Examples of ruminants are cow, goat, yak, deer, buffalo, sheep, etc.
