(2) The member of the Former Planning Commission, N.K. Singh is the chairman of the 15th Finance Commission that was constituted in 2017. The Finance commission will look into the impact of the goods and services tax (GST) on finances of both the center and states. The other members of the commission are former economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das and former chief economic adviser Ashok Lahiri, Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand and Georgetown University professor Anoop Singh. The Finance Commission was established by the President of India in 1951 under Article 280 of the Indian Constitution, to define the financial relations between the central government of India and the individual state governments.
