(4) Santhal Rebellion (1855-56). Occurred in the Rajmahal hills of the Santhal region. It was led by Sidhu and Kanhu. Reason : oppression of police,atrocities of landlords and money lenders, ill-treatment of small farmers by land revenue officials. Government banned shifting cultivation in forest areas.
