Hydrochloric acid (Hydrogen Chloride or HCl) is a clear, highly acidic liquid. HCl is one of the many chemicals released in our stomach during the intake of a meal. The role of hydrochloric acid in our stomach, along with other gastric juices, is to break down foods and cause the release of enzymes that further help digestion.
