It lies on the border of Nepal and the state of Sikkim and is the world’s third tallest peak.
The mountain and its glaciers receive heavy snow during the summer monsoon season and a lighter snowfall during the winter.
The name “Kanchenjunga” is derived from the Tibetan word 'Kanchen' and 'Dzonga' translating to "The Five Treasures of the Great Snows", owing to the five significant mountains in the region.
