The Judges to Supreme Court as wells as the Chief Justice are appointed by the President after consultation with such judges of the Supreme Court and high court as he seems necessary.
Other judges are appointed by President after the consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the consultation is obligatory.
In 2nd Judges Case 1993 Supreme court ruled that the senior-most judge of the Supreme court should alone be appointed to the office of Chief Justice of india.
