The famous king Pulakeshin II belonged to the Chalukya dynasty.
Pulakesi II reigned over the Chalukyas of Badami, an Indian royal dynasty that ruled large parts of southern and central India between the sixth and the twelfth centuries.
Pulakeshin II reigned from 610 to 642 CE.
His court poet, Ravikirti, left accounts of his campaigns, his wins and wrote a eulogy at Aihole called the Aihole Inscription.
The Aihole inscription is the most famous account written by Ravikirti.
The inscription describes how the mighty Harsha was defeated by Pulakeshin and lost his Harsha (joy) when he suffered the ignominy of defeat.
There is also a mention of the victory of Chalukyas over the Pallavas and of the shifting the capital from Aihole to Badami by Pulikeshi-II in the Aihole inscriptions.
