Solution:

Let the average expenditure of all the nine = Rs. x

Now amount spent by eight = Rs. 3 × 8 = Rs. 24

and total spent by the ninth = Rs. x + 2

\Rightarrow\frac{26+x}{9}=x

∴ Average amount spent by nine

\frac{26+x}{9}

Total amount spent by nine

=24+x+2=26+x

⇒ 9x = 26 + x

or, 8x = 26

\Rightarrow x=\frac{26}{8}=\mathrm{Rs}\,3.25

Hence total money spent = Rs. (3.25 × 9) = Rs. 29.25
