Copper sulphate reacts with potassium cyanide giving a white precipitate of cuprous cyanide and cyanogen gas. The cuprous cyanide dissolves in excess of KCN forming potassium cuprocyanide K3[Cu(CN)4]. 2CuSO4+4‌KCN→2‌CuCN+(CN)2+2K2SO4 CuCN+3‌KCN→K3[Cu(CN)4]
