(2) Situated near the border of North Indian states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh,Bhakra Dam is the highest straight gravity Dam in the world. Bhakra Dam also taps water from the River Beas which is used for the purpose of irrigation by the north Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. The Krishna Raja Sagara Dam (KRS Dam) was built across river Kaveri, the life giving river for the Mysore and Mandya districts, in 1924. Bhavanisagar Dam and Reservoir, which is also known as Lower Bhavani Dam, stands astride the Bhavani River between Mettupalayam and Sathyamangalam in Erode district,Tamil Nadu. The dam, which is 32 meters high and has a capacity of approximately 32/8 TMC is used to redirect water to the Lower Bhavani Project Canal. The Bhavani River creates the Bhavanisagar Reservoir, which is in Bhavanisagar District in Tamil Nadu. Shivana-samudra is the location of a HydroElectric project, but more pertinently it is also home to a few lovely water falls. I t is located in Karnataka. The Shivanasamudra falls are formed on the Cauvery river. A little distance before the falls, the river splits into two, forming an island. The two streams falls down to the same point and flows downstream.
