(4) There are eleven forms of marriage practiced among the Santhals, of which, six are regular marriages while others are merely union of couples. The most common form of regular marriage is the ‘ ‘Kirin Bahu Bapla” or the “bought bride marriage”. The bridal price is paid by the groom to the bride’s father in form of cattle or food grain or even cash. The marriage is also known as “Raebar Bapla” as a broker or “Raepar” arranges it.
