In forward biasing, the p type is connected to positive terminal and n type is connected with negative terminal. So holes from p region and electron from n region are pushed towards the Junction which reduces the width of depletion layer. Also, distance between diffused holes and electrons decrease, which decrease electric field hence barrier potential.
