x^2 + 38x + 297 = 0

y^2 - 29y - 296 = 0

Solution:

x^2 + 38x + 297 = 0

\Rightarrow x^2 + 27x + 11x + 297 = 0

\Rightarrow x(x + 27) + 11(x + 27) = 0

\Rightarrow (x + 27)(x + 11) = 0

\Rightarrow x = -27, -11

II:

y^2 - 29y - 296 = 0

\Rightarrow y^2 - 37y + 8y + 296 = 0

\Rightarrow y(y - 37) + 8(y - 37) = 0

\Rightarrow (y - 37)(y + 8) = 0

\Rightarrow y = 37, -8

Clearly,

x < y
