Directions (46–50) : Study the following graph and adjoining table carefully to answer the questions given below.

A, B, C, D and E are five persons employed to complete a job X.

Notes :

(i) All persons worked on the job X for whole number of days.

(ii) Two jobs Y and Z are similar to job X and require same effort as required by job X.

Solution:

Work done by E

=\frac{5}{20}=\frac{1}{4}

(A + B + D)’s 3 days’ work

=\frac{1}{10}+\frac{1}{12}+\frac{1}{18}=\frac{43}{180}

9 days’ work

=\frac{129}{180}

Remaining work

=\frac{3}{4}-\frac{129}{180}=\frac{1}{30}

This part of work will be done by A in

\frac{1}{30}\times 10 = \frac{1}{3}\,\text{days}

∴ B worked for 3 days.
