14x^2 - 59x + 60 = 0

40y^2 - 57y + 20 = 0

Solution:

14x^2 - 59x + 60 = 0

\Rightarrow 14x^2 - 35x - 24x + 60 = 0

\Rightarrow 7x(2x - 5) -12(2x - 5) = 0

\Rightarrow x = \frac{5}{2}, x = \frac{12}{7}

II:

40y^2 - 57y + 20 = 0

\Rightarrow 40y^2 - 32y - 25y + 20 = 0

\Rightarrow 8y(5y -4) -5(5y - 4) = 0

\Rightarrow (5y- 4)(8y - 5) = 0

\Rightarrow y = \frac{4}{5},\frac{5}{8}

Clearly,

x > y
