The emitter is always forward biased to enable the majority charge carriers to cross the emitter-base junction and collector-base function is in reverse biased to collect the charge carriers, so that current flows through the transistor. Hence, the emitter-base junction of a transistor is forward biased, while collector-base junction is reverse biased.
