If a line makes intercepts 5, 12 on X, Y axes respectively, then the length of the perpendicular drawn from the origin to the line is

Solution:

Equation of line in intercept form :

\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b}=1

∴Equation of straight line with x – and y – intercepts 5 and 12 respectively is

\frac{x}{5}+\frac{y}{12}=1

\Rightarrow 12x+5y-60=0

Length of the perpendicular from the origin (0,0) to this line

=\frac{60}{\sqrt{(12)^2+(5)^2}}=\frac{60}{13}
