Given: a and b are real numbers.

I. Given: a > b

we can have

4 > 3 = 4^2 > 3^2

and also

–3 > –4 = (–3)^2 < (–4)^2

∴ I alone in not sufficient

II. Given: a > 0

It says nothing above ‘b’

∴ II alone is not sufficient

I & II Even two together are not sufficient.

e.g.

4 > 2 = 4^2 > 2^2

4 > –5 = 4^2 < (–5)^2
