Fullerenes are molecules with 60 carbon atom of which most common is C60 while others with C70,C76,C80 atoms. Fullerenes can be made in a carbon arc, where two graphite rods are placed with a small gap between them in an inert gas below atmospheric pressure. The carbon of the rods evaporate and convert to give fullerene, where C60 is main product and C70 is obtained in small amount.
