Given: The ratio of milk and water in the original mixture = 4 : 1 10 liters of this mixture is replaced by 10 liters of water The ratio of milk and water in the resultant mixture = 2 : 3 Calculation: Let the volume of water be x ⇒ The volume of milk = 4x Now, According to the question ⇒ Volume of milk replaced $= \frac{4}{5} \times 10 =$ $$\text{8 liters} \\ \Rightarrow \text{Volume of water replaced = } 10 - 8 = 2 \text{ liters} \\ \text{Again, According to the question,} \\${4 x-8}/{x-2+10}={2}/{3}$\\ \Rightarrow 12x - 24 = 2x + 16 \\ \Rightarrow 10x = 24 + 16 \\$⇒ x = 40/10 = 4$ ⇒ Volume of milk initially = 4 × 4 = 16 liters ∴ The initial volume of milk is 16 liters.
