Question : 28 of 33
Marks: +1, -0
A disc rotating about its axis withangular speed ω0ω_0 is placed (withoutany translational push) on a perfectlyfrictionless table. The radius of the discis R. What are the linear velocities of thepoints A, B and C on the disc shown in thefigure.
Solution:
Using the relation v=rω,v=r \omega, we get
For point A,vA=Rω0A, v_{A}=R \omega_{0} along AXA X
For point B,vB=Rω0B, v_{B}=R \omega_{0} , along BXB X'
For point C,vC=(R/2)ω0C, v_{C}= ( {R}/{2} ) \omega_{0} parallel to AXA X,
The disc will not rotate, because it is placed on a perfectly frictionless table. Without friction, rolling is not possible.
