A person standing between two vertical cliffs and 480 m480\,\mathrm{m} from the nearest cliff shouts. He hears the first echo after 3 s3\,\mathrm{s} and the second echo 2 s later.

Solution:  
Time taken to reach second echo
  =3+2=5sec.\;=3+2=5 \mathrm{sec} .
   Now     =2dt\;\text{ Now }\;\;=\frac{2 d}{t}
⇒d  =vt2\Rightarrow d\;=\frac{v t}{2}
Distance of other cliff from the person
=320×52=800m=\frac{320 \times 5}{2}=800 \mathrm{m}
