Solution:

Total distance travelled by the sound in going and come back

= 2 \times 480 \mathrm{m}

Speed of sound

\;=\;\frac{\;\text{Total distance travelled}\;}{\;\text{Time taken}\;}

\;=\;\frac{2 \times 480}{3}

\;=320 \; \mathrm{m} / \mathrm{sec} .
