In Young's double slit experiment, the separation between the two slits in dd and distance of the screen from the slits is 1000d1000 d. If the first minima falls at a distance dd from the central maximum, obtain the relation between dd and λ\lambda.
Position of n  th   n^{\;\text{th }\;} dark fringe from the centre is
yn=(2n−1)  λDdy_n = (2n-1) \;\frac{\lambda D}{d}
For 1  st   1^{\;\text{st }\;} minima,
y1  =  λD2dy_1 \;=\; \frac{\lambda D}{2d}
or, d  =  λ×1000d2dd \;=\; \frac{\lambda \times 1000 d}{2 d}
∴    d=500λ\therefore \;\; d=500 \lambda
