(a) Why do we call Tourism as a Trade? Explain.

Solution:  
(a) There are several reasons why tourism is considered a trade. Some of them are:
(i) Foreign tourists' arrival in the country contributed thousands of crores of foreign exchange.
(ii) More than 15 million people are directly engaged in the tourism industry and it has become one of the leading sources of employment in the country.
(iii) Tourism provides support to local handicrafts as foreign tourists like these kinds of antique products.
(iv) Foreign tourists visit India for medical tourism and business tourism which enhances the economy of the country.
(v) Tourism also promotes national integration, provides support to local handicrafts and cultural pursuits. Therefore, it is said that tourism is an invisible trade.
OR
(b) Transportation helps in the economic development of a nation in the following ways:
(i) Expansion in the transportation network generates employment opportunities.
(ii) It plays a major role in the economic upliftment of a country as it promotes internal and external trade,
(iii) Transportation system helps in economic use of natural resources, mobility of skilled labour-force, diversification of markets, provision of fuel, increase in agricultural and industrial production, etc.
