Solution:  
∫0π4tan⁡x dx\int\limits_{0}^{\frac{\pi}{4}} \tan x \, dx
=[log⁡sec⁡x]0π4=[\log \sec x]^{\frac{\pi}{4}}_0
=log⁡sec⁡π4−log⁡sec⁡0=\log \sec \frac{\pi}{4} - \log \sec 0
=log⁡2=12log⁡2=\log \sqrt{2} = \frac{1}{2} \log 2
