Question : 42 of 50
Marks: +1, -0
A compound is formed by two elements M and N. The element N forms ccp and atoms of M occupy 1/3rd of tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound?
Solution:
Suppose no. of atoms of element N = a
Number of tetrahedral voids = 2a
Number of atoms of element M=×13×2a=2a3M=\times\frac{1}{3}\times 2a=\frac{2a}{3}
Ratio of M and N =2a3:a=2:3=\frac{2a}{3}:a=2:3
Formula of the compound =M2N3=M_2N_3
