Question : 32 of 39
Marks: +1, -0
In a reaction, 2A → products, the concentration of A decreases from 0.5 mol L1^{-1} to 0.4 mol L1^{-1} in 10 minutes. Calculate the rate during this interval.
Solution:
Average rate =12Δ[R]Δt=-\frac{1}{2}\frac{\Delta[R]}{\Delta t}
=12[R]2[R]1t2t1=-\frac{1}{2}\frac{[R]_2-[R]_1}{t_2-t_1}
=12×0.40.510=-\frac{1}{2}\times\frac{0.4-0.5}{10}
=12×0.1M10=-\frac{1}{2}\times\frac{-0.1\,\mathrm{M}}{10}
=5×103Mmin1=5\times10^{-3}\,\mathrm{M}\,\mathrm{min}^{-1}
