Question : 10 of 34
Marks: +1, -0
An electric dipole with dipole moment 4 × 10910^{-9} C m is aligned at 30° with the direction of a uniform electric field of magnitude 5 × 10410^4 N C1C^{-1}.
Calculate the magnitude of the torque acting on the dipole.
Solution:
Torque on dipole is, τ = pE sin 30°
or τ = 4 × 10910^{-9} × 5 × 104×1210^4 \times \frac{1}{2} or τ = 10 × 10510^{-5} or τ = 1 × 10410^{-4} N m
