It is required to seat 5 men and 4 women in a row so that the women occupy the even places. How many such arrangements are possible ?
Solution:
Total places are 9, in which 5 are odd and 4 are even like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9.
5 men will occupy 5 odd places in

4 women will occupy 4 even places in
P 4
∴ Required no. of ways = 5! × 4! = 2880.
5 men will occupy 5 odd places in
4 women will occupy 4 even places in
∴ Required no. of ways = 5! × 4! = 2880.
